Strengthening Families For Generational Thriving
We gather, organize, and empower parents and guardians — because you are the most important person in your child’s life and in our community.
About
The mission of Oakland Parents Together, “Parents Together” (OPT), is to gather, organize, and empower parents/guardians.
At Oakland Parents Together, we believe you — as a parent or guardian — are the most important person in your child’s life and in our community. When parents, teachers, and neighbors work together, we can create a powerful team. That partnership is the key to building strong neighborhoods and improving our schools for all children.
OPT helps create and strengthen this essential connection. We’re here to support you in working with teachers, school leaders, systems, and other community members so we all can be partners in your child’s education and well-being.
For over two decades, we’ve been a powerful voice for Oakland’s children. Since 2000, we’ve empowered parents, advocated for children, and forged deep partnerships so families are treated as true partners within the public-school system. We’ve built a lasting presence in numerous Oakland schools and collaborate with a wide network of organizations.
Programs
Multi-lingual Parent University experiences that include Parent Cafés, workshops, and opportunities to connect with other parents and guardians.
A welcoming space to be heard, share challenges without judgment, and gain tools to strengthen your family — offered in seven-week cycles or cohorts.
Practical sessions for families — including assessing your child’s speech and language, autism myths and facts, time management, financial guidance, and more.
If your child’s school has no active parent group or School Site Council, we help organize both — and train parents to become organizers who engage other families.
